The Med-e-Tel 2006 conference program highlights included:

  • a symposium on "Global Healthcare Challenges and Opportunities: The Role of Advanced Technology" organized by the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), focusing on the implementation of broadband networks, mobile solutions, operational standards, environmental sensors and telemedicine technologies
     
  • a workshop on "Improving Connectivity with Remote Areas for Equitable Access to Health Services" by the Healthware project consortium, covering the potential benefits of telemedicine applications (services at home, second opinion, medical training, teleconsultation in the domains of cardiology, oncology and chronic respiratory diseases), in remote areas in particular, and the conditions for deploying in the field a light and cost effective satellite technology
     
  • extensive focus on "Homecare and Health/Disease Management" covering topics such as medication compliance, telemonitoring of vital signs, fall detection, video communication, and more
     
  • a workshop on "Knowledge Sharing and Decision Support for Healthcare Professionals" by the Doc@Hand project consortium on the subject of IT tools for healthcare professionals that help reduce the time and associated costs to collect the information and knowledge required and in making the best use of it for a more informed decision making (diagnoses, therapies, protocols)
     
  • a regional seminar organized by the Luxembourg CRP-Santé (Public Institute for Research in Healthcare, Public Health and Biotechnology) about "IT at the Service of the Client-Patient: New Solutions and New Strategies for Hospitals, Mutualities and the Industry" with a focus on Automated Appointment Booking, Online Consultaiton of Electronic Patient Records, eLearning, Telemonitoring, ePrescribing, CRM in Mutualities, Image Transfer, Electronic Signature, Wireless and Mobile Solutions
     
  • an overview of "International Telemedicine & eHealth Initiatives and Developments" by members of the International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth (ISfTeH)
