Philips HeartCare Telemedicine Europe B.V. is a company that focuses on providing personal services related to ailments of the heart. The joint venture was established between:

  • Philips Medical Systems: one of the top 3 companies in diagnostic imaging systems and services and a partner to medical practitioners for over 100 years.
  • SHL Telemedicine: a widely recognized telemedicine company with over 14 years of demonstrated success.

The service involves the transmission of medical data by an individual person from a remote location to the Philips Telemedicine Monitor Centre via telephone. With the help of state of the art monitoring systems, a professional medical team uses this data to monitor the person's condition, in order to respond to his or her needs in real time. Studies have shown that the average reaction delay between the appearance of the first symptoms of a cardiac event and soliciting medical advice is 180 minutes. With a medical response time that can take more than two hours to take full effect, many patients will suffer from permanent damage to the myocardial tissue. This may in many cases result in the death of the patient.
With our Paxiva Cardio subscription, reaction delay times can be reduced down to 44 minutes as patients can more conveniently access professional advice. Furthermore the response time to receive professional assistance can be reduced significantly with an immediate dispatch of an ambulance. Philips Telemedicine aims at delivering peace of mind, additional care and cost efficiency to the benefits of patients and the community at large:

  • The patients could benefit from a reduced emergency response time, a reduced level of damage after myocardial infarction, a more active role in the management of their health and, most of all, peace of mind for themselves and their relatives.
  • The medical community, including physicians and hospitals could benefit from real time patient monitoring at remote locations, more effective management of treatment programmes, earlier release programmes after myocardial infarction, and the availability of medical data for the emergency personnel.
  • The health care providers including insurance companies, sick funds, etc. could benefit from reduced costs due to more effective medical prevention and monitoring at home. To find out more about Philips HeartCare Telemedicine Services and other divisions of the Philips Medical Systems group offering telemedicine applications, visit them at the Telemedicine & Telecare International Trade Fair in Luxembourg next April.

SCHILLER is an international manufacturer and supplier of medical equipment, having its Headquarters in Switzerland. A Center of Excellence for Cardiac Defibrillation is located in Wissembourg/France, where a new bi-phasic pulsed defibrillation technology has been developed. Multipulse Biowaveâ is dedicated to increase the survival-rate after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This is achieved with highly effective pulsed energy that has a more gentle impact on the heart tissue. Multipulse Biowaveâ is implemented in the semi-automatic FRED (First Responder External Defibrillator), specifically designed for Consultants, Hospitals and Rescue Services. Thanks to its additional Data-Transmission feature, FRED is also a very useful partner in remote areas or during passenger transportation (airplanes, ships, trains, etc.).
By pressing a single key, a standard 12-lead ECG can be transmitted via a GSM or satellite cellular telephone for analysis and storage on any computer system. Professional analysis and storage is provided by SCHILLER’s SEMA-200 Data Management Software.

AGFA has a few interesting products for telemedicine in its portfolio:
The IMPAX WEB1000 allows for an efficient, low cost solution to your need for remote review and distribution of patient data. AGFA's made it simple: your modality or PACS pushes images and reports to the WEB1000 server. The server stores the images in lossless or lossy format. Authorized users pull them from anywhere via the world wide web. The user interface leverages our intuitive IMPAX GUI and frames it in your choice of web browser. The improvements in your workflow are found in the ability to use the system as you would your PACS. The tools for markup, geometry, and annotation, multiple display formats are all here. On-line help and icon descriptions are readily available to facilitate an easier learning process. The WEB 1000 offers also several features to enhance security.
AGFA will be showing these solutions at the Telemedicine Trade Fair, documented a.o. by real life examples and experiences from projects and applications in the Hospital of Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg.
