Cegeka Healthcare Systems, member of the Cegeka Group, develops, implements and supports patient care applications for hospitals, such as the electronic medical record, electronic drug prescription, nursing plans and clinical pathways.
The Cegeka solutions enable healthcare professionals to organize all patient care in an efficient way, aligning patient care with healthcare standards and best practice. All patient care activities are managed using the electronic therapy plan. Such a plan comprehends for instance the patient profile, drug prescriptions, lab order data, orders for technical exams, nursing orders, and alerts.
Meet with Cegeka representatives at Med-e-Tel to explore the benefits the Cegeka solutions can bring to your organization. Cegeka will also present a business case on the follow-up of drug prescriptions in the seminar on "Computerization of Hospital Ancillary Services", co-organized by CRP-Santé and the European Association of Hospital Managers during Med-e-Tel on April 7th.

From a European initiative supported by the Walloon Region, the independent Research Center Multitel was founded in Belgium in 1995.
Multitel services include applied scientific research as well as business services and consultancy. Its research activities focus on Speech & Signal Processing (Automatic Speech Recognition, Text-to-Speech Synthesis and Speech Coding, safe navigation techniques, and intelligent clothing), Image Processing (traceability, Intelligent Video Surveillance), Optics & Telecommunications (fiber lasers, metrology) and Networking (test and implementation of new protocols and technologies on MPLS, DiffServ, ATM, VoIP, VPN's). Multitel also participates in various FP6 projects as well as in other European (Eureka) or national projects.
At Med-e-Tel 2005, Multitel will present ALLADIN, a STReP project in the field of e-health technology, coordinated by Artevelde Hogeschool with nine other partners from seven European countries. Multitel participates in this project for the multimodal speech interface.
ALLADIN focuses on the development of a user-friendly natural language-based decision support software for neuro-rehabilitation, mainly in stroke. Once implemented, it will provide an adequate and fast solution for a client centred practice, for discharge planning and for the use of rehabilitation resources.
Treatment techniques in neurological rehabilitation diverge in EU countries. ALLADIN will provide a report in an easily interpretable universal language. This project will then lead to a brand new method for decision support and risk management in neuro-rehabilitation.

HICT, an independent Belgian company with the ambition to become a European player in healthcare consulting and ICT, is offering industry specific solutions and services to the extended healthcare market place (care providers, patients, suppliers, public sector related services, 3rd payers, etc.).
HICT's vision is that healthcare-specific information, communication and technology solutions can bring measurable added value. HICT does so, by offering the healthcare market place consulting, application development and integration services based on healthcare specific value propositions, with the objective to raise the service level and quality of care for patients and their relations and to optimize the available resources for the healthcare providers.
HICT is participating at Med-e-Tel 2005 and is also one of the sponsors of the regional seminar co-organized by CRP-Santé and the European Association of Hospital Managers during Med-e-Tel on April 7th, where HICT will present a case study on the management of the Hospital Pharmacy (electronic dispensing cabinets for pharmaceutical products, RFiD for pharmacy and/or patients, portable data storage, etc.).

COCOON, an EU co-funded eHealth project aiming to develop an information network to support healthcare professionals in reducing risk management, expects to involve more than 10.000 general practitioners in a testing phase of the proposed information network, in cooperation with regional healthcare systems in Italy, France and Greece, and the European Medical Association. Other regions in Spain, Finland, Germany, England and Eastern Europe have already asked to participate in the field trial phase as well.
A study on the electronic health record, carried out by the Australian Committee of Ministers of Health, confirms that about 70% of deaths, caused by medical mistakes, could be avoided, and about 10% of these mistakes could be avoided through the use of a personal clinical path.
These data show that, in order to guarantee a patient's safety and to develop more reliable healthcare systems, a patient's medical history must be captured, cross-referenced with medical protocols and made available to the healthcare professional.
The COCOON project consortium, in close collaboration with electronic health record manufacturers, will elaborate information coming from the historical clinical data of the patient and his family, and cross-references these data with existing medical protocols in order to "provide the right information to the right place at the right time to the right person" and "develop a toolset of interoperable, scalable and reusable web services supporting community & knowledge management practices in a wide range of networks of healthcare professionals".
Visit COCOON representatives at the Med-e-Tel exhibition and attend their presentation on April 6h, during the Med-e-Tel conference session on "European 'ICT for Health' Research: From Managing Health Status to the Increasing Personalization of Health Diagnosis and Treatment".

The pan-European project INFOBIOMED, "Structuring European Biomedical Informatics to Support Individualised Healthcare", aims to develop tools and methods in Biomedical Informatics (BMI) and to create a stable and lasting structure for this discipline in Europe.
BMI is a discipline that is placed in the confluence of two disciplines that up to date have developed in an independent form, Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics. Although traditionally, Medical Informatics has been focused on the intersection between computer science and clinical medicine, and Bioinformatics has been predominantly centered on the intersection between computer science and biological research, the synergy between these two areas offers excellent opportunities for the advancement of personalised healthcare. The integration and exploitation of all the data and information generated at all levels by these disciplines requires a new synergetic approach that enables a two-way dialogue between them that comprises data, methods, technologies, tools and applications. BMI will help facilitate the translation of biological research results into clinical solutions.
Therefore the main purpose of the INFOBIOMED Network of Excellence is to enable the reinforcement of European BMI as an integrative discipline. BMI aims to create a common conceptual information space to further the discovery of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods in the rapidly evolving arena of genomic medicine. The mission of BMI is to provide the technical and scientific infrastructure and knowledge to allow evidence-based, individualised healthcare using all relevant sources of information. Its implementation will help improve not only the treatment of diseases but also their diagnosis and prevention, also placing emphasis in public health and the reclassification of diseases. These foreseen benefits will improve health and quality of life of citizens and will probably have an effect on the efficiency of expenditure of the healthcare system.
Visit INFOBIOMED representatives at the Med-e-Tel exhibition and attend their presentation on April 6h, during the Med-e-Tel conference session on "European 'ICT for Health' Research: From Managing Health Status to the Increasing Personalization of Health Diagnosis and Treatment".

A new project promoting the collaboration between Russia and Europe in IST started recently, SITE: Siberia, Information Technologies and Europe. SITE brings a very distant Russian region, covering an area in excess of 5 million square km, nearer to Europe: Sibirsky Federal District (SFD), the "Siberian Silicon Valley".
Mostly unknown to Europeans, SFD hosts approximately 250 universities and research institutes with some 66.000 researchers. The overall aim of SITE is to increase the number of IST-projects with Siberian research teams involved as partners.
SITE brings highly competent Siberian researchers from the remote SFD to European IST-conferences where they can present their most recent research results. By organising real and virtual brokerages as part of IST-conferences, SITE creates unique opportunities to meet the Siberian researchers in person and to talk to them. A partnering mechanism supports online partnerfinding via a database with 320 profiles of researchers from SFD with strong expertise in IT. The database makes it possible to carry out specific partner searches and enables Europeans to easily contact a selected Siberian research team. Apart from this, the SITE helpdesk assists Europeans to deal with any type of complex issue related to the collaboration with Russia.
SITE, together with its sister project Admire-P, is bringing several researchers to Med-e-Tel 2005 in Luxembourg. Meet them on their exhibition stand and join their various presentations in the Med-e-Tel conference program.
For more information on SITE and Admire-P and to make an appointment at Med-e-Tel, please visit www.singleimage.co.uk/russia-in-ist.
