Estele is a tele-operated robotic system allowing any expert clinician to perform remotely echographic diagnosis as if he were "on site". The system is based, on a light 4-axis ultrasound Probe Holder Robot (positioned on the patient by any medical assistant), and remotely controlled by a specialist. A Bidirectional visio-conferencing system allows:
- The patient and the specialist to communicate and as if they were in the same room.
- The specialist to visualize both the images generated by the echograph and see and talk with the patient.
Estele is a reliable turn-key system, easily usable worldwide, and allowing any clinician expert to overcome space and time constraints. These experts can bring their expertise worldwide, everywhere such competencies are missing drastically.
Estele allows:
- Echography whithout local expert
- Hospitals to easily share their specialists
- Every hospital to reinforce their emergency cazpabilities and availability
- Expert clinicians to double and secure any difficult diagnosis
Discover Estele as well as other Robosoft developments at the Med-e-Tel exhibition (stand 1C74).
Experts from the University Hospital Tours and Bourges Hospital in France will also be presenting Estele as part of the Med-e-Tel conference program on Wednesday 18 April (see www.medetel.lu/index.php?rub=educational_program&page=program).

Ageing Services Technologies: Lessons from Providers and Consumers, a session presented by the International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing (IAHSA), will focus on the use of technology as a solution to the challenges facing consumers, caregivers and government in the presence of ageing populations and dwindling workforces. Along with three additional presentations focused on specific applications and examples of ageing services and assisted living technologies, the session will highlight the following three strategic initiatives:
- IAHSA is a global ageing network that offers an international forum for the exchange of research, information, ideas, services, products and training that benefit ageing service providers in their quest to enhance the quality of life of the ageing. As a Non-Governmental Organization with Special Consultative Status at the United Nations, IAHSA is well positioned to directly engage in leadership discussions, especially in its signature areas of workforce, cultural competency, quality and advanced technology.
- CAST (Center for Aging Services Technologies), co-located with IAHSA in Washington (USA), is leading the charge to develop and deploy emerging technologies that can improve the ageing experience. A coalition of more than 400 technology companies, ageing services organizations, research universities, and government representatives in the United States, CAST will offer a glimpse of what the future of ageing could look like with help from developing technologies.
- MPOWER, a European Commission funded partnership of ten European organizations and IAHSA, is dedicated to new solutions for healthcare in ageing societies. With a main objective to support older people living independently with quality of life in their homes for as long as possible, as well as creating confidence in technology solutions for both older people and their family members, MPOWER advocates an open platform supporting rapid development and deployment of distributed integrated services for its target groups.
The IAHSA session at Med-e-Tel is scheduled for Thursday 19 April between 10h00 and 12h30. For more information, have a look at the Med-e-Tel conference program overview at www.medetel.lu/index.php?rub=educational_program&page=program.

The new eHIT Health Gateway mobile electrocardiograph offers a simple yet efficient way to be in contact with health professionals anytime and almost anywhere. It consists of a wearable wireless ECG miniature sensor with integrated electrodes, which continuously measures the heart activity and wirelessly transfers the data directly to the mobile phone of the patient. The information is then automatically transferred in real time to the health care provider by using a secure mobile connection such as GPRS, GSM, CDMA, or 3G.
Coronary heart disease is by far the most common cause of death in many countries. Every few seconds, someone in Europe is suffering of chest pain caused by an insufficient supply of blood to the heart. "It is often difficult for the patient to tell the difference between angina symptoms and heart attack symptoms - says Dr. Takizawa of K-Clinic, Tokyo - therefore it is very important to early recognise the signs of a heart attack and immediately seek for medical attention."
eHIT's solution offers patients the capability of recording and simultaneously transmitting the ECG signal whenever they feel heart irregularities or they are sized by pain in the chest.
The mobile electrocardiograph is the last addition to the eHIT Health Gateway system, which is an effective and secure tool to wirelessly transfer data from different measurement devices to the health care professionals by using mobile phones or PDA devices.
Visit eHIT's stand (1C39) at Med-e-Tel to see a live demonstration of the mobile electrocardiograph and other telemedicine applications. Also attend eHIT's presentation "Mobile ECG - A New eHealth Solution for Telecardiology Based on eHIT Health Gateway Platform" as part of the Med-e-Tel conference session on Mobile eHealth Solutions, taking place on Wednesday 18 April, as well as the presentation "A Complete Mobile Phone Based eHealth Solution for Diabetes Management" as part of the Med-e-Tel conference session on eHealth Solutions for Diabetes Management on Friday 20 April.
